Schitt's Creek co-creator Dan Levy's new Netflix series Big Mistakes closes its first season on a cascade of twists and cliffhangers, leaving the story pointedly unfinished. So what are the chances of a Season 2? Here's everything we know.
Created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott (I Love L.A.), Big Mistakes centers on two hopelessly out-of-their-league siblings: community pastor Nicky (Levy) and school teacher Morgan (Taylor Ortega). After stealing a necklace from a local store, the pair find themselves blackmailed into the orbit of organized crime, forced to carry out increasingly dangerous tasks for a ruthless Italian mob — all while bickering their way through every assignment. We rated the series 3.5/5 in our review.
Season 1 feels very much like a first chapter. Its cliffhanger finale reveals that Morgan's mother-in-law-to-be, Annette (Elizabeth Perkins), is actually the mob boss running the entire cartel operation. Morgan, despite deep reservations about marrying Annette's son Max (Jack Innanen), finds herself with little choice. As for why both siblings survived the Florida bloodbath — Annette simply didn't want to disappoint her son by killing his future bride.

The Season 1 finale raises plenty of questions for a potential follow-up. Will Morgan go through with marrying Max? Will Nicky make good on his vow to step down as community pastor? And now that Annette's true identity is out in the open, how much deeper will the siblings be dragged into cartel life?

'Big Mistakes' Review: Should You Watch the New Drama From 'Schitt's Creek' Co-Creator Dan Levy?
Levy has been open about where Season 2 could go, with Annette's relationship with Max emerging as a central thread. "She needs to keep him happy," Levy told Variety. "Morgan and their dynamic, their relationship, is a great way of keeping her son happy. She can't mess that up. And also — Nicky and Morgan know too much now. So even if they wanted to leave, they have a lot to answer for."
For Levy, the creative ambition for Season 2 is clearly there. Where Season 1 saw the siblings stumble unwittingly into cartel work, a second season would push them further in — and with no escape route. "A Season 2 would just be: There's no way out now," he said.
He elaborated further to TVInsider, making clear he already has a strong sense of direction for the series. "I know exactly what I want to see in the second season of the show," Levy said. "A lot of the show is written in my head at this point. All I know is that if we are given the opportunity to tell a second season, it's going to be bigger and better, and I can't wait to get back to the writer's room because we have a big old story to tell."
Big Mistakes Season 2 Renewal Status
Official Status: Not Yet Renewed
Barring any undisclosed upfront deal, renewal will hinge on viewership — and the early numbers are cause for concern. Opening week data shows the show drew just 2.7 million views and 12.2 million viewing hours globally in its first four days on the platform. That performance was enough to place it eighth in Netflix's weekly global Top 10 for the week of April 6th through April 12th, 2026 — but for a series of this budget, those figures likely fall short of what Netflix typically looks for when green-lighting a second season.
That said, the show has been gaining consistent traction in Netflix's daily top 10s since its debut — a promising sign. Whether its completion rate and other internal metrics Netflix weighs when considering renewals will be enough to greenlight a second season remains to be seen, but early momentum is encouraging.
Big Mistakes Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
