If you've been wondering what became of the indie comedy series Everyone is Doing Great, the wait is finally over. Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to the show—and crucially, the deal includes the long-shelved second season that fans had all but given up on ever seeing.
Both seasons are scheduled to arrive on Netflix US on May 11th, we can confirm.
Here's everything you need to know about the acquisition: what the show is about, who stars in it, and the social media exchange that quietly telegraphed this announcement months ago.
What is Everyone is Doing Great about?
If you missed its original run, Everyone is Doing Great is a sharp, self-aware, and frequently hilarious half-hour comedy created by, written by, and starring James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti. The premise draws directly from the duo's real-life experience as teen-drama heartthrobs.
The show follows Seth (Colletti) and Jeremy (Lafferty), two actors who starred in a massively popular vampire-themed series called Eternal. Five years after the finale, they're still trading on that legacy while struggling to find their footing — professionally, romantically, and personally — in an industry that has largely moved on without them.
Who is in the cast of Everyone is Doing Great?
The series features an ensemble of recognizable faces from teen and young-adult television. Here is the main cast:
- James Lafferty (One Tree Hill, The Right Stuff) as Jeremy Davis
- Stephen Colletti (One Tree Hill, Laguna Beach) as Seth Stewart
- Alexandra Park (The Royals) as Andrea Cooper-Davis
- Cariba Heine (H2O: Just Add Water, Designated Survivor) as Isabella Baker
- Karissa Lee Staples (S.W.A.T., Walker) as Sarah
Note: Netflix had been developing a One Tree Hill reboot, though its current status remains unclear.
The Long Road to Season 2 — and the Instagram Clue
Everyone is Doing Great has always been an independent, grassroots production. After a successful crowdfunding campaign, Season 1 debuted on Hulu in early 2021 before moving to other platforms. Fans responded warmly, and a second season was fully shot in 2023. But as the distribution landscape shifted, the finished season sat in a vault with no release date in sight — effectively becoming lost media.
James Lafferty – SERGIO GARCIA
In hindsight, attentive fans might have spotted the writing on the wall. Last October, Sony Pictures at Home posted an Instagram promo for Season 1, directing viewers to Tubi and The Roku Channel with the caption:
"They chased the spotlight. Now they're just trying to find their footing. Stream Season 1 of @everyoneisdoinggreat on @tubi and @therokuchannel. #EDG"
In the comments, a fan with the handle @calvinbryant captured the skepticism of the broader fandom: "This show came out 4 years ago. While it was great, I highly doubt there will be a season two."
Series co-creator James Lafferty jumped in to correct the record:
@jameslafferty: "@calvinbryant Season 2 is finished and coming soon. Hopefully a much shorter hiatus before Season 3 😅🙌"
Now we know exactly what "coming soon" meant. Netflix has stepped in as the new home for the series in the US and across most international regions, including the UK. When the show drops on May 11th, subscribers will be able to stream all eight episodes of Season 1 alongside the long-awaited Season 2. Given that One Tree Hill spent years as one of Netflix's strongest catalog performers, acquiring Lafferty and Colletti's passion project looks like an easy call for the streamer.
We're expecting a full Season 2 details announcement in the coming weeks — stay tuned for updates as they arrive.
