John Krasinski's nerve-shredding sequel picks up immediately in the aftermath of the Abbott family's harrowing ordeal at home. Forced out into an unfamiliar and hostile world, they quickly discover that the sound-hunting creatures aren't the only dangers lurking beyond the sand path. Cillian Murphy is a compelling addition to the cast, and the film sustains the same relentless tension that made the original such a standout. (Bonus: Krasinski's 2024 family film IF also landed on Netflix this week, making it an easy double-feature night.)

Trust Me: The False Prophet (Limited Series)

Netflix's true crime pipeline delivers another highly anticipated entry this week. Trust Me: The False Prophet examines the rise and fall of a charismatic leader who manipulated hundreds of followers before his empire collapsed. Featuring exclusive interviews and newly surfaced footage, it's shaping up to be one of the more compelling documentary series the streamer has offered this year.

Thrash (2026)

Netflix's film output has been notably lean in 2026 — something we documented this week as an eight-year low — but Thrash marks one of the more prominent acquired titles to arrive on the platform in recent months. The premise: a catastrophic hurricane traps residents of a coastal town, leaving them to battle rising floodwaters teeming with ravenous sharks.

Critical reception has been tepid. In our own review, Andrew Morgan concluded:

Verdict: Lower those expectations below sea level if you want to enjoy this shark-infested survival film. Actors of note don't mean much if you don't give them anything to work with, but violent shark attacks might be enough to quench the bloodthirsty fans of the genre.
